1858 Flying Eagle Cent, one of the most popular and historically significant small cents issued by the United States Mint. Struck for only a short period from 1856 to 1858, the Flying Eagle design marked the transition from the large cent to the smaller cent format still used today. Estimated Grade: Good (G-4) Details. The coin displays considerable circulation wear consistent with a Good (G) Details grade. The eagle design on the obverse remains identifiable, though most feather detail has worn smooth. The reverse wreath and lettering are fully visible, with strong rims present around most of the coin. The date 1858 is clearly readable. The surfaces exhibit even wear and circulation marks typical of a well-traveled 19th-century copper-nickel cent. This coin represents an affordable example of a key one-year type design and would make an excellent addition to any U.S. type set, Flying Eagle cent collection, or beginner's collection of early American coinage.
